Fasting with water and fruit and vegetable juices and a diet high in raw foods returned my health and freedom. My chronic hepatitis had become a crippling disease. Years of serious addiction followed my drug abuse at thirteen, and I got hepatitis, a frustrating and painful illness. Deterioration of my liver progressed as the years followed, causing my other filtering organs (kidneys and spleen) to be overworked, thus causing more pain and damage to them. Fasting with water and fruit and vegetable juices and a diet high in raw foods I suffered for sixteen years. The swelling of my liver was to the size of a football. The liver is the largest cleansing organ, and does not have space for swelling. Swelling causes constant irritating pain which is felt from the rib cage to the stomach. It is impossible to forget hepatitis.
Life was dismal and hopeless. I weighed 270 pounds, a burned out addict desperately to rid myself of a massive chemical intake. I needed 20 to 30 tranquilizers a day so I would not lose my sanity.
I had uncontrollable emotions. I felt my nerves were overloaded electrical wires. In my desperation, I contacted Tom, a friend I have not seen the past years. He wanted to help me and I moved into his house.
After I slept for a few days, I awoke only to realize how grossly complicated my rebellious life had become. I had played the role of someone else for 20 years, someone who was invincible, ruthless and tough. An empty soul was the hollow reminder of a wasted life. Tearfully, I agonized over the loss of my family. A victim with only me to blame. I thought moving in with Tom would help the massive depression that was now my life, but nothing could stop my eyes from seeing painful reality. Tom listened to my sad story for several nights. I found an outlet for my pent up anguish so that my insides would not explode.
The changes were remarkable after 20 days of juice fasting. I wasn’t cured, but because of the results I continued the fast.
After 40 days of juice fasting, the sickly unstable human metamorphosed into a name with vibrant health. I shed 100 pounds which gradually built my self-esteem. The retention of large amounts of body fluids had caused the excessive bloating. Due to the drugs and a damaged liver, my body could not release these fluids. Whatever caused the bloating was healed, my weight dropped to 170 lbs after the 40 days of juice fasting. The swelling on my right side, from my liver, subsided. I had a clear and stable mind. For the first time in years, tranquilizers were no longer needed. I thanked God that drugs had not caused permanent damage to my mind.
If a butterfly could communicate of the metamorphosis of changing from a crawling insect, into a multi-colored, graceful, flying creation, its words would be those burning in my heart. What drugs took away was given back.
I found freedom from a tremendous addiction through juice fasting. I am now closer to God than ever before.
